Research Outputs
Below are some recent research outputs from the Alethic Innovations team.
Dr. Wilcox’s book, “Human Judgment”, distils scientific insights about how to understand, measure and improve the accuracy of human judgment. The outcome of improved accuracy is improved decision-making. It reviews evidence across a diversity of domains about how accurate human judgment is, including medicine, law and politics.
In a recently published article in Intelligence and National Security, Dr. Wilcox and his colleague Dr. David Mandel review the scientific literature bearing on a technique aiming to improve human judgment.
In a scientific article in Judgment and Decision-Making, Dr. Wilcox provides experimental evidence for a new cognitive bias and a new method to remedy it. The bias is showcased using a toy problem called the “Monty Hall problem”, but the bias is potentially also present in other real-world contexts, such as medicine and law.
In a recently published article in Review of Philosophy & Psychology, Dr. Wilcox argues for a new account of what it takes for our judgments to be trustworthy. The account—called “calibrationism”—is “domain general” in the sense that it has practical implications for many diverse domains, such as medicine, law and other fields.
